KAR OG Alan Sasan DMCC

A Strategic Upstream Venture for Iraq’s Energy Future

The Alan–Sasan Project is a landmark exploration and appraisal initiative operated by KAR OG Alan–Sasan DMCC, in partnership with the North Oil Company (NOC) under Iraq’s Exploration, Development and Production Contract (EPDC). Awarded in the Fifth+ Licensing Round in May 2024, the project reflects Iraq’s ambition to build a modern, resilient, and competitive energy sector.

Located northwest of Mosul in the Nineveh Governorate, the concession covers 359 km², spanning the Alan (162 km²) and Sasan (197 km²) blocks. This area is recognized for its strong geological promise and proximity to future energy infrastructure.

Geological Potential

The project targets Tertiary and Cretaceous reservoirs, formations that have proven productive across northern Iraq. Early indicators and advanced seismic modeling show encouraging potential for oil and associated gas, supporting Iraq’s domestic refining, power generation, and long-term national energy security.
